While it might not come equipped with a baby elephant vacuum cleaner or a pelican washing machine, the “Flintstones House” in Hillsborough, California is sure to attract multiple offers when it hits the market next week. The two bedroom, two bathroom single-family home is listed through Alain Pinel Realtors for $4.2 million.

The abode’s distinctive design was conceived by architect William Nicholson in 1976. It was built by spraying shotcrete onto steel reinforcing rods and wire mesh frames over inflatable balloons. The home was originally white, but was repainted orange in the early 2000s. Structural changes to the interior were made in 2007, giving it a contemporary feel.

With 2,730 square feet of living space, the Flintstone House features conversation pit around a beehive fireplace, a cave-inspired walk-in shower and recessed bathtub, spacious master bedroom, guest bedroom and a one-of-a-kind kitchen with sculptural built-in shelving and an oversized sink.

The brightly hued home has become a local landmark, as it is visible from interstate 280, which runs between San Jose and San Francisco. Its previous owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, lived there for 19 years. Rumour has it that George Lucas once owned the estate and O.J. Simpson made a bid on it in the mid-90s.
