My reply to the Real Estate Board...



To REBGV, thank you for your email asking me to sign this petition in hopes you can get the Superintendent of Real Estate to delay implementing not being able to 'double end' a sale... please find my response below.

 

To “delay” implementing the dual Agency ban? So you’re saying you’re ok with it, just not right at this moment?? How is that any help?

Also what happens if we get 10,000 signatures? Or 50,000?? ..... nothing.

We will be like the people that show up every weekend to protest kinder Morgan pipeline, as it moves on and on and on.
Not very well thought out on our boards part.  We run like a union of employees but without the power. The superintendent can literally make whatever changes he wants and we have 0 power.

Some of us realtors were calling for this years ago and it fell on deaf ears. For years and years we lost the support of the public. We (Realtors) recently ranked 43% of the public had a negative view of Realtors. We are in a group with car salesmen and politicians in the recent "Insights West Poll". For over a decade that I have been licensed realtors were allowed to run roughshod with little consequence. Fining a realtor that makes $150,000 , $1250 and making them take a course (whilst letting them keep their $7,000 commission cheque for the specific deal they were acting deceitfully) didn’t curb the shady agents? Shocking.

I am not sure how our industry couldn’t predict that acting for 2 opposing parties in the same transaction for the largest purchase people will ever make was a bad idea.

Did we really think a couple commercials on the radio would sway the public going up against the 6 o clock news once a week with a different story about an unscrupulous realtor? Who were we kidding?

It took us how long to raise the language proficiency for an industry where it’s agents broker millions of dollars a year and don’t speak English? How did we think that was gonna end?

Then we are up in arms when the government takes self-governing away from us? Eventually when the kids are on the iPads too long, the parents will step in and take them away. We did this to ourselves by brushing things under the rug for way too long.

I am for cleaning up the industry, one that I want to be proud to be a member of.

The letter calls on the Superintendent of Real Estate to delay implementing the limited dual agency ban. It also expresses our concerns about the potentially negative impacts these rules could have on consumers the way they’re currently being interpreted.

The more letters your MLAs receive, the stronger Realtor’s voice will be. Don’t be silent – send your letter now!
